Whether your bricks have been stored in an attic or played with every day, they will eventually need a wash. Here's how to clean LEGO® safely.

What you need

  • A large bowl or a mesh laundry bag.
  • Lukewarm water, below 40°C (104°F).
  • A little mild washing-up liquid.
  • A soft brush (an old toothbrush works) and clean towels.

Step by step

  1. Disassemble the bricks and remove any stickered or printed parts you want to protect.
  2. Soak the pieces for about 15 minutes in lukewarm soapy water.
  3. Gently brush dirty pieces, especially between studs.
  4. Rinse in clean water.
  5. Spread them on a towel and let them air-dry completely, away from direct sunlight.

What never to do

  • No dishwasher and no boiling water: heat warps the plastic.
  • No washing machine without a closed laundry bag; even then, keep the temperature low.
  • No hairdryer or oven to speed up drying.
  • No strong solvents or bleach on printed parts.

Special parts

  • Minifigures: wipe printed areas gently, never scrub.
  • Stickered parts: wipe with a slightly damp cloth only.
  • Motors, hubs and light bricks: never immerse; wipe with a dry cloth.
